A brilliant woman, filled with creativity, passion and generosity has left us. Greta Faigen, born on September 26, 1937 passed away on October 13 surrounded by her family and loved ones. A profoundly loving mother, wife and grandmother, her passing will be deeply mourned by her daughter Lisa Seigel, her son Andrew Faigen, his wife Mindi (Marks) Faigen, her two grandchildren Hannah and Max Faigen and many other close family and friends. Her bright spark of love for humanity, the arts and social justice lives on in her family. Through her abundant philanthropy Greta touched many lives, most especially those of children. Her generosity supports the many projects and causes she championed, including the Maya Angelou Schools, the Childhelp Alice C. Tyler Village, and the Opportunity Inc Early Childhood Center, all of which embody her fierce interest in protecting and nurturing those most vulnerable. Greta was the devoted wife of real estate executive George Faigen with whom she shared a life of mutual passion for family, travel and adventure. When due to illness George was unable to continue working, Greta took leadership of his vast business holdings and through her persistence, acumen, intelligence and energy those holdings continued to grow and thrive. Greta continued to guide the family businesses after George’s death in 2009 ultimately focusing on the philanthropic efforts that have become her legacy. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Sylvia and Max Schwartz, Greta was raised in Washington DC where she developed a lifelong passion for politics, policy and history. Her opinions were published numerous times in letters to the editor in national newspapers, and were communicated with vigor to all who knew and loved her. She maintained homes in both West Palm Beach, FL and East Hampton, NY where she enjoyed the company of close family and friends.
